About Me
Born in Sanford, North Carolina, Ernest Gilchrist was raised in the rural Sandhills of nearby western Harnett County, minutes from Fayetteville-Fort Liberty. There, he was exposed to unique multicultural relationships, which would influence, shape and mold him. Gilchrist grew up from childhood with a fascination for journalism and the literary arts. While in high school he served as a sports editor of the yearbook and school newspaper.
At Campbell University, he would later study under English professor and renowned poet, Dr. Shelby Stephenson, a former North Carolina Poet Laureate and a past winner of the North Carolina Award for literature, the highest civilian award given in the Tar Heel State.
In addition to a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the university in “The Creek”, Gilchrist holds a MBA in International Business with a concentration in marketing from Mercer University’s Eugene Stetson School of Business and Economics.
Fusion of Cultures: The Spirit of ArgyllAmerica™ Revealed
Someone has got to warn the world of the changes that are imminent. Maybe, we need a little real life Back to the Future mixed with some West African Sankofa. That is what you get when you read this book – a forward moving creative nonfiction work; part memoir and part narrative that helps us pursue the best in us while looking back in critical reflection. It speaks of the history and growth of the South East, specifically North Carolina. It connects the roots and heritage of the Native American and African culture to the Scottish and “Argyll” travelers that planted roots and left behind the residue of rich and painted past. From the “Tar Heel” origins, tea colored rivers, to the long-leaf pine, and the life and works of Paul Green, Gilchrist paints a vivid history entwining his own life with the lives of many pioneers before.

Fusion of Cultures: The Spirit of ArgyllAmerica™ Revealed 2nd Edition
“Ernest Gilchrist’s creatively melds the specific ambiguity of his ancestry, especially linking it with the Scottish background and the Gaelic and the African. I like the instinct, the spirit, which pursues and leads him. Gilchrist convincingly presents the reality of our longing to be human beings. He makes me believe the promise of that hope, way back to our roots,
happening all around us now.”
Our HAPPY READERS
I really enjoyed Ernest's book. It was a historical journey back in time, chronicalling the Argyl history of North Carolina. Each chapter contained rich information about his roots and the common thread of the African Americans and Scottish in that part of the country. I did not know about this history and it made me want to research my roots since I have family from North Carolina. Good job!
Ernest paints such a picture with his words that I was transformed to each location. Reading this book made me think of my own family history. It is inspiring and motivating. Fusion of Culture is such an appropriate name as we well know that many African Americans, myself included, are indeed fused.
